January 22 recap

January 29, 2020 Written by Jack Frysinger

At our last meeting on January 22, our word of the day was “aplomb,” a most appropriate way to describe our speakers and the consistent improvements we see from them each week. Angel was our toastmaster, and she did a great job of leading us through the meeting.

In our prepared speeches section, we heard from Harsha and Steven. Harsha delivered a speech about Formula 1 racing and his passion for watching it. Steven tackled the Research and Presenting speech from his track, telling us about the different ways to manage financial investments. Steven won the award for best speaker – congratulations!

In our Table Topics section of the meeting, we heard impromptu responses from members of the club on various topics brought up by Stephanie, our Table Topics master. We listened to members’ views on what all humans have in common and what having freedom really means. Bob won the award for best response through telling us why the patience to hear complaints is the most desirable trait a person can have.

In our evaluation section, Michael spoke about Steven’s speech, and Wendy won the ribbon for her evaluation of Harsha’s. Our general evaluator, Marcin, encourages members to treat the supporting roles (Grammarian, Wizard of Ahs, etc.) as mini speeches and an opportunity for practice.

At the end of the meeting, we announced that Angel, our toastmaster, has also recently completed Level 1 of the Pathways manual. Congratulations!
