Time to register for the club contest

January 22, 2020 Written by Jack Frysinger

All members are eligible (and encouraged!) to participate in the Tall Tales speech contest coming up in our last meeting in February. You can tell a story about anything you wish – the only requirement is that it not be true.

In addition, members who have completed two levels on Pathways (or six speeches in the old manual) are invited to participate in the International speech contest, held in the same meeting.

Please contact Kory or any of the other officers to register for either contest. Good luck!

January 15 recap

At last week’s meeting, Steven was our Toastmaster and we heard two prepared speeches. Kory told us a humorous story encouraging us to “just say yes” to every opportunity, because you never know which one will change your life. Peter delivered his icebreaker speech, telling us about his journey living in China and Singapore before moving to the U.S. for grad school. Peter also won the award of Best Speaker – congratulations!

Surya was our Table Topics master, and he asked a wide array of questions. We heard about members’ New Years resolutions, about drinking too much in Vegas, and why living on Mars is better than on Pluto. Bob took earned the award for telling us why he would make a great Baby Yoda.

We heard an evaluation for each prepared speech. Angel won the award for her take on Kory’s humorous speech, and Gavin evaluated Peter. Our General Evaluator, Jack L, reminds us that fines levied by the Wizard of Ahs and the Wordmaster are to be paid by members only (meeting guests are exempt). He also encourages the Table Topics master to  wait a full ten seconds before calling on a respondent – we want all attendees to brainstorm an answer first.
