November 6 recap

November 13, 2019 Written by Jack Frysinger

At our November 6 meeting, Risabh was our toastmaster. We heard an icebreaker from Jennie, who told us about how everyone seems normal until you get to know them. Sharon delivered a prepared speech about how the “rule of three” can help us form a speech outline. I (Jack F) won the award for best speaker by explaining my perspective on constructing effective evaluations.

Our Table Topic session was led by Chetan, who pulled conversation starter cards from a deck. We heard stories inspired by topics like where else in the world we would like to live, and what skill we would like to improve. Ali won the award for his response.

The word of the day was “upbraid,” and we try to do that in the most constructive way possible during our evaluation section. Jack L was our general evaluator and oversaw our three reviews of the prepared speeches. Chahana evaluated Jennie’s icebreaker, and Deima delivered her analysis of mine. Bob won the award for his thoughts on Sharon’s speech to inform.
