Wow! What a meeting we had on February 15! The theme was ‘Facing your Fears,’ run by first time Toastmaster Poonam Bidarkar.
Poonam started with a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror..”
With more than 8 guests in attendance, three fearless speakers delivered their speeches. The first speech was an ice breaker by new member Iryna Nevozhai. She shared her journey and objectives to join Macintalkers.
Our second speaker, Nancy Chen, spoke passionately about Mochiko (not food mochi), her German Shepard dog. She gave practical tips on training the dog and being patient while bringing the dog up.
Our Guest Speaker Satya Kannan talked about how to “Mind your Garden” and how to weed out negative thoughts from mind and seed positive thoughts.
Table topic master Rebecca Boorsma asked practical questions about fears people face day to day life. Questions included “What is your greatest fear about interview questions?” and “Give one example about rational and irrational fear.” One guest volunteered for a Table Topic question and won Table Topics.
The speakers received constructive and useful feedback. Club President Sharan Hiremath won the best evaluator ribbon.
Our Guest Speaker Satya won the best Speaker award, which she shared with Iryna and the club gave a standing ovation to Iryna for her Ice breaker speech.
Toastmaster Poonam concluded the meeting with great message. She encouraged everyone to read “Impossible” as “I-M-Possible.”
